What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a Parent and Family coach. My customers are parents who have children with challenging behaviors.
Tell us about yourself
The majority of my career was working with one family at a time as a Child Care Professional. During COVID I was approached by a nationwide company to bring parenting support to their employees. Parenting Game went from an idea to reality. Becoming a virtual coach allowed me to help families nationwide. Knowing I can help families go from chaos to calm is what motivates me to continue growing the business.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Becoming the Parent and Family coach for a women's shelter. Many of these women deeply desire to raise their kids well. Unfortunately, they haven't had the best role models. It is an honor to be a part of their journey and watch them become healthy parents.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Work-life balance! I know how important it is, yet I continually put my well-being on the back burner. Over the years, I have become better about noticing I need time to recharge.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Trust your gut! As a business owner, you get marketed to constantly. It can be overwhelming, and you can start second-guessing yourself. When getting advice, tune into gut feelings and listen to them.
- Write a mission statement and set core values. This will help you to avoid being pulled into many directions. Also, if you do get off course, it is easier to get back on track.
- Get help in identifying your ideal client. Initially, I wanted to help every family, and the result was my marketing was all over the place. Marketing became much easier after identifying my ideal client. Another unexpected result was I was able to charge what I was worth.
