Take the Guesswork Out of Parenting - Parent Sense

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Meg Faure, Founder and CEO of Parent Sense, located in Saint Helier, Jersey, Channel Islands.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Parent Sense is an app designed for expecting new moms and parents of toddlers who want and need professional guidance and support with their little ones' feeding, sleeping, health, and development.

Tell us about yourself

As an Occupational Therapist, my work has always been about making parenting easier for parents. Initially, I worked with fussy babies with sleep, feeding, or sensory difficulties, but once I had my own children, I realised that the well baby and mom need as much support. I wrote a book, Baby Sense, that became a best-seller, and that led to the launch of the Baby Sense company that sold quality products for new moms and babies. After selling that business, I co-founded Play Sense, an Early Childhood Education business, and then SENSE IT, which developed the Parent Sense app. All these businesses are underpinned by my motivation to make the parenting journey easier and more joyful.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the strength of the three brands I built. Baby Sense is still a household name, Play Sense is the gold standard of Early Childhood Education, and the app is an incredibly 'sticky' and much-loved brand and tool that truly adds value to the parents of infants.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is building the right teams. I'm also committed to ensuring that mothers can work within a co-operative, skilled team and still have the flexibility to parent their own children. It can also be a very lonely journey and scary - particularly when you start every month knowing how much revenue needs to be generated to cover expenses, and things don't always go to plan.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Always keep the user at the centre of what you are doing. Always know your end user, your 'beneficiary,' your customer - KNOW your audience.
  2. Find your growth strategy and find a way to get into the mind of the consumer - what's going to make you desirable, what's going to get you into their hands, and make them talk about you.
  3. Do not be shy to seek out investment when you need it. Investment, either venture capital or angel investment, can really be an enabler to growing your business and seeing your vision come to life.
