Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Pamela Grice, Founder of Pamela Grice Coaching, located in Penrose, CO, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
At Pamela Grice Coaching, we're on a mission to unleash the power of outlier business owners. You know the ones...the misfits, the creatives, the folks who don't quite fit the mold of "Instagram Sweetheart" but who are committed to growth, profitability, and creating an impact in the world. Our goal is to create a space where they feel seen, heard, and celebrated as we help them grow as big as they desire through a holistic approach to business - tackling strategy, marketing, and wellness issues. We will do this through faith- and psychology-based coaching and our blog, podcast, courses, membership, retreats, and community.
Tell us about yourself
I first started business coaching in 2017 after my crochet business went viral. At that time, I was a psychotherapist in private practice but transitioned to coaching after I saw so many crochet business owners struggling to create a viable business. So, I took a sabbatical from counseling and dove into coaching as the Crochetpreneur. After growing that business to multiple-six-figures, I decided (with some prompting from my own coach and team) to take the leap and expand my offerings to a wider range of business owners with Pamela Grice Coaching. See, I have known what it feels like to be stuck in a difficult situation, to have no options because I was financially dependent on another person. I am motivated to get out of bed each day by the women I serve in my business - I want them to have the freedom to choose what their lives will look like and how they will live each day without fear without constraints. Growing a profitable business and the resulting financial and personal freedom will help them to do that.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
In the past two years, my business had the pleasure of donating a percentage of our gross sales to organizations that help free men, women, and children from human trafficking and slavery, as well as those that invest in small and female-owned businesses around the world. Our own growth is making an impact worldwide that is rippling down to families and changing their financial outcomes for generations to come. There is no accomplishment that I'm more proud of than that.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest part of being a business owner, particularly an online business owner, is the isolation that comes from working behind a computer all day. Because I'm not working a regular 9-5 in a regular office, many people don't understand what I do or how I do it. It's hard to find someone to connect with who gets it. I've found that joining mastermind groups and other communities for online business owners helps.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be sure the business is built on a value system that feels aligned with your own. You are a big part of your business, and if the values of the business class are with your own, you'll be in for a struggle.
- Don't be afraid to niche down. Even multi-passionate entrepreneurs can niche down without losing their love for the work. Decide who you want to work with and make them your niche...serving everyone will water down your marketing opportunities, but niching gives you the option to become the go-to person for your product or service.
- Be tenacious. The business that grows and gains traction are the ones that keep plugging away every day, being as consistent as possible, and advocating for themselves and their offering.
