Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Carol Anderson, Founder of Palmetto Center for Change, LLC, located in West Columbia, SC, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I provide telehealth (live video) counseling services for adolescents, adults, and geriatric clients in SC. While I prefer to work with a wide variety of clients and issues, I specialize in the treatment of complex trauma.
Tell us about yourself
I have been in private practice since 2011 but became a social worker in 2002 after several years of working in various human services jobs. What motivates me is the remarkable people who seek treatment in an effort to improve their lives. My life is enriched by their experiences and their personal growth.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is establishing a business that not only serves the community but also fosters the growth and professional development of other clinicians.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things about being a business owner is needing to know all aspects of the business, even if they are not your area of expertise. While delegating out tasks over time is often advantageous, failure to know how things work could result in loss of revenue, non-compliance with regulations, or even poor quality of care.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Do your research regarding the business, the demand for the product/service, and what is legally required. Know your strengths and find others to assist in mitigating your weaknesses. Learn and know all aspects of your business, but realize when it is time to delegate to others.
