What's your business, and who are your customers?

Paintbucket is a modern nail art shop that caters to women of all ages in Brooklyn, NY. We also create nail care products sold nationwide on our e-commerce website and at Anthropologie.

Tell us about yourself

I have a background in advertising + have always had a love for nail care. I also really enjoyed creating experiences for people and realized that I could create a beauty establishment for women to come to where they could indulge, have fun + get a great mani or pedi at the same time.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is becoming a great leader. I have learned how to be a great manager and lead my team with kindness and empathy, which I took time to master.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is that you can never shut off or disconnect. There is always a person or project that needs your attention. You can do your best to create a healthy balance. Still, at the end of the day, it is something that entrepreneurs like myself struggle with - disconnecting from their passion.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Make sure that you are 100% dedicated to what you want to create and know that there will be a ton of hiccups along the way, but it will always be worth it if you are really passionate about making something for your customer.

My biggest piece of advice is to always listen to others, lead with kindness, and put your all into whatever you do.
