Growth Over Fear™ - PAINKLLR

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with April Liang, Owner of PAINKLLR, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are an experiential brand in the functional fitness space. We are driven by purpose. To inspire people to take action for the lives they want. Our beliefs run deeper than words, and through our experiences, we challenge you to choose Growth Over Fear™.

Tell us about yourself

I have always been active and had a love for fitness. I started off in the women's contemporary market and realized apparel is something I just didn't have a passion for. I knew that I loved creating but also wanted to build something that had more purpose. My now fiancé and business partner started PAINKLLR together. We wanted to create a community and a brand that had a soul. We have our digital part (product and digital experiences in partnership with the US Air Force Special Warfare) of the brand and also our physical part (events and experiences) of the brand, which allows us to communicate and interact with our community. Being a part of the community in, both ways physically and digitally, is a huge component of the brand.

Being able to create these experiences, challenging ourselves and allowing ourselves to do a better job each time, and seeing the growth motivates me on a daily.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

To be completely self-funded and continue to grow the brand even through the toughest times. Being able to allow for change during these moments has been pivotal for PAINKLLR.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Continuously having to push the edge for growth, and with growth, there are constantly new obstacles you need to overcome.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just get started. You will never know unless you try. When starting out, have a plan, but know that the plan can change. You will get from point A to B, but how you get there may not be exactly how you forecasted. Be open-minded and pivot when necessary.
  2. Give time for yourself. When you're not constantly working, it seems like you're falling behind, but a reset allows for you to not burnout and you come back refreshed versus giving 50% every day.
  3. When growing your team, hire people who know how to do the things you are not an expert in
