Strut Their Stuff Through Packaging - Packaging Chic
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sharon Eucce, CEO of Packaging Chic LLC., located in San Diego, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We help product-based companies design and produce their packaging. At the core of our business is managing print production of boxes for brands in the beauty, specialty food, beverage, pet, health & wellness, and fashion industries.
Our favorite clients have strong brands and need our expert design and detailed eye to keep their packaging consistent. Our customers rely on us to help them sell more products with beautiful packaging.
Tell us about yourself
After graduating from college with a Graphic Communication degree, I realized that I had entered an industry, not just a job pool. The education and help I got in the early years after graduation have fueled my lifelong interest in learning and supporting others in the print and packaging industries. I had a 20-year career in the fine paper business, working for large companies. An opportunity came along to work for a box manufacturer, and I took it. The company preferred that I was an independent contractor, and so it's been since 2007. After a moment of panic, thinking I would be "just a box schlepper," I knew I wanted my own personal brand. In a conversation with a graphic design friend, I told him my worry, and he responded, "Sharon! You'll always be my packaging chick!" It hit me right there that I could brand myself that way and maybe someday have a company with that name. I was so excited I told my parents about my new company name, and after some awkward silence and a comment that sounded a bit harsh, I proclaimed that I would remove the "k" and become Packaging Chic! Pronounce it however you want.
The opportunity to create my own freedom, create a business, create packaging, and help brands come to life is what keeps me going. Building a business that supports my life is what it's all about.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
So far, my biggest accomplishment as a business owner is transforming my little one-person operation into a two-person operation! I've produced packaging for some wonderful brands, and the network I've built has me feeling very accomplished too.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest thing is letting go of my own processes that got me to where I am. I know letting others do what they do best is the path to growth. Managing all the areas that are not my superpowers is hard, and that's why I'm adding people who have those superpowers!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find the best people and nurture them from their early stages to be the best.
- Use your personal values to create your company values to find the right people so that everyone is creating in the same direction.
- Build your network of close advisors who you can ask anything of.
