Nourish the Health of People and the Planet - Pacha
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Adam Hiner, Co-Founder of Pacha, located in San Diego, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
At PACHA, we make organic, gluten-free bread. Our bread is also vegan, grain-free, and paleo. Each of our 4 recipes has only 2 - 5 simple, recognizable ingredients. Our customers live all over the US and order from us directly, and they are likely people who care about the ingredients in their food and their impact on the planet. They are also people who enjoy the most delicious gluten-free bread.
Tell us about yourself
I am 41 years old and have founded many businesses. I began in the food industry with the first organic catering company in Southern California. I later opened a farm-to-table restaurant in San Diego which led me to create the hard kombucha category with a company called Boochcraft. I finally made my way back to my original passion of making delicious healthy food with PACHA in 2020. I am so excited to work on PACHA every day because I know we are making a big difference with our sourcing as well as our certified home compostable packaging.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is the amount of food we have sourced from organic farms with all of my businesses, as well as the amount of waste we have diverted from the landfills to compost with all of my businesses.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing as a business owner is to figure out how to keep the lights on with increasing costs while doing right by the employees and giving the customer an excellent product at a fair price. That is the balance.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Follow your heart and listen to your gut.
- Make the hard decisions that will set you up for long-term success, even if that means short-term struggle.
- Be scrappy, even if you don't need to. You never know when the need will arise, and it's better to be practiced when it does.
