Broadening the Business Horizons of Your Company - P&L GLOBAL
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mario Cabeza, Co-Owner of P&L GLOBAL, located in Gijón, Asturias, Spain.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I work to make companies develop, grow and become more competitive, mainly based on international expansion. My lines of work are:
- Establish strategic cooperative relationships between companies.
- Design growth strategies, especially international expansion.
- Optimize or restructure operations.
- Avoiding or minimizing losses due to commercial conflicts.
- Investment matching.
My clients are companies and public administrations that help companies, with financing or resources from third parties, to grow, innovate or access new markets. Especially in the renewable energy, construction, and industry sectors and transnational projects. I am focused on building stable and collaborative relationships between companies. It is the optimal way to create value and achieve the flexibility and excellent customer service that today's market requires to be competitive.
Tell us about yourself
My main venture started in 2012. We saw a clear need in the market after 4 years of being immersed in the deep crisis that began in 2008. Most medium and small companies had no international experience. They needed new clients because the domestic market was still very contracted or to look for alternative suppliers in other countries to be more competitive. We decided to provide these two services in addition to the complete international logistics. A powerful solution with a great team of promoters. Afterward, we adapted our services to the barriers we encountered and to the greater profitability of the activity.
Working with business and investment matching and the rapid and negotiated resolution of conflicts is very rewarding. Above all, for three reasons: you meet countless interesting companies from different activities, sectors, and countries, you work with them to carry out ambitious projects, and you create a wide network of contacts with top professionals.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Restructuring and adapting companies' operations to face crises and return to positive economic results or achieve great growth in the first years are my greatest achievements. I must also admit that there was another occasion when my crisis management was not optimal, but it was a very important experience in my professional career (about crisis management and the importance of choosing the right partners).
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The most difficult part of being an entrepreneur is to choose the right partners and management positions and to have a very open mind to adapt your company, your initial idea, to the reality of the market. Making quick decisions in times of crisis is also important.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- That the business is really focused on providing a solution to a need of a wide audience.
- Be agile and flexible, quickly adapting and perfecting the initial idea to the reality of the market and with an innovative vision.
- To be prepared for the transition from entrepreneur to a businessman. [For the entrepreneur, there will always be public support agencies, economic incentives, and tax exemptions,... but suddenly, at some point, he/she will be alone in the face of danger, you will have become a business owner].
