Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey as a Yoga or Pilates teacher, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Caroline Lucas, the owner of Karma Studios, a Yoga & Pilates studio in West Wickham, Kent.
Tell us all about your business...
Karma Studios is a Yoga & Pilates Studio.
What's your background and motivation to grow as a yoga & pilates teacher?
I broke my ankle and found yoga and pilates as part of my rehab. I noticed I started to feel better and knew there was more to it than just "stretching."
As a small business owner, what does success ultimately mean to you?
Having a good work life balance so i can spend time with my children
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a solopreneur?
People coming and going and not taking that personally
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a small business today?
Ask for help! Find a mentor in the same business as you. Allow things to grow organically (if you can afford to) you then normally get the right people at the right time. Get some social media training (do not let social media get you down!)
If there was one thing you could do repeatedly to help grow your business, what would it be?
Make sure the teachers are all coming from the same place of wanting to genuinely help people and deliver great classes. To be more business minded when things are not working out.
What are some of the things you put in place to maintain a healthy work/life balance and to keep it all together?
Making sure I am present for my children, making sure i have time out for myself (for me that's going to the gym and walking my dog).
Who are some of your favorite entrepreneurs and best business resources/books?
It would probably be some other studio owners who I admire.
