Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lindsey Wilson, founder, and CEO of OWL Venice, located in Venice, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
At OWL Venice, we believe that to heal the world, you must first heal yourself. Through our wellness services and products handcrafted with organic and local ingredients, we seek to transform lives from the inside out and make a positive impact in our local community and beyond. For anyone looking to feel more vibrant and live a healthier life, we have something in store for you.
Tell us about yourself
I created OWL after making broth to heal my own digestive issues. I could not find any broth on the market without garlic and onions, so I set out to make my own. I didn't particularly love the taste of the broth, so I layered in roots, vegetables, and medicinal herbs to create a broth that tasted more like a tea. Drinking broth daily transformed my health and inspired me to create the OWL reset program. I wanted the benefits of an all-liquid to cleanse without the sugar and with enough calories and nutrition to carry me through my day. The results I experienced when I did the program myself for the first time were transformative- so transformative that I was inspired to share my creations with others. A single Facebook post that sparked interest in hundreds of women in Los Angeles was the impetus I needed to start OWL. Seeing others experience the healing powers of our broth elixirs and our reset program inspires me daily to keep building and growing OWL.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
OWL has inspired and supported thousands of people along their healing journeys, and I consider that the greatest success. I started this business to help others and to make a positive impact, and that's exactly what we do at OWL. We have stayed true to our values and always source the highest quality local ingredients available and packaged in glass. In recent years, we've been able to hire health coaches to support our clients further and help them maintain long-lasting positive shifts. We're always looking for more ways to cut down our carbon footprint and add more value to people's lives.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things I've experienced as a business owner is managing people & finding the right ones. Everyone is so unique, and it's important to discover the right communication and management style that works with each person. It all comes down to trust and communication. It can be difficult to let go of control and entrust others with something that you've quite literally poured your heart and soul into. I've been blessed to find amazing people who have supported the growth of OWL, and it's been and continues to be an evolution.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- How you do anything is how you do everything. Don't compromise on your values!
- Stay organized from the start. It only becomes more intricate and complicated, so set yourself up with a solid foundation, know the importance of discipline and consistency and create systems for yourself and eventually others who will come on board to help.
- Don't be afraid to ask for help! Find other inspiring business owners, coaches, family, or friends - pick their brains, take them out to lunch and ask questions- you can only get so far on your own.
