What's your business, and who are your customers?

Over The Top Bakery is a bakery located in Ottawa, Ontario and it was established in April 2019. I specialize in making custom creations for your celebration such as cakes, cupcakes, cakepops and chocolate smash cakes. My customers are of all ages and genders and comes from all over Ottawa and Gatineau.

Tell us about yourself

I always had a passion for baking, making pastry and sweets since I was a child. It started with helping my mom and my aunts in the kitchen making traditional Bengali sweets and pastries. I'm self-taught and always learning to improve my recipes and techniques. Support from my family, friends, and mostly my customers is what keeps me motivated!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is selling out my treat boxes whether it's for Valentine's or Christmas, everyone seems to love them! They usually consist of cupcakes, chocolate-dipped strawberries, and cakesicles which give people the option to try a variety of products.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

In this business, it's definitely finding quality ingredients and pricing your product at a reasonable price. Along with that, establish a well-connected customer base and try the best you can to accommodate their requests.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

1. Be passionate about your business and it won't feel like work!

2. You can't please everyone, so don't be hard on yourself if it doesn't work out.

3. Be organized, it will allow you to manage your time and help you overcome your day-to-day challenges.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Baking is my therapy, something I truly enjoy doing. It may get hard sometimes, but never give up and you will feel amazing once you overcome it!
