Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business solutions but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Patrick Tuure, Founder of Out There Web Designs, located in Grove City, OH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Out There Web Designs takes businesses from bland to grand with effective services that showcase your brand. We do web design, custom web development, local SEO, and manage paid ad campaigns on Google, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Our clients are businesses that are in need of increasing their presence on the web.

Tell us about yourself

In 2010 a friend came to me and asked if I could build him a website; not knowing anything about web design, I immediately said, “sure thing,” and promptly figured out how to do it. I started Out There Web Designs shortly thereafter with a partner. I started with very small projects, and my first clients were all word of mouth. I found some business forums and started posting and answering questions from others, gaining me a few more clients. During all this, I continued to learn more web design skills and started diving into the fun world of SEO. As I learned SEO, I started selling that as an additional service.

This was a part-time gig at first, but as I gained more clients, I discovered a networking group that I quickly joined and grew my contacts to find higher quality clients, leading me to my first large client. I landed them on building a system that their current web designer couldn’t build. This one required a software developer, which I am not. I talked to a friend of mine and got him interested in helping me with this. We built out this system that we maintain to this day. I was never of the mindset of “One and Done.” I wanted clients that would stay with me long-term. A lot of my early clients are still with me. Others have moved on but still refer work to me.

As my client list grew, I needed to add people to my team to increase my quality. I brought on my web designer. She was a Spanish teacher who recently lost her job & wanted to learn web design. I started teaching her what I knew and turned her loose to learn more on her own. She’s extremely creative, and she does the majority of all our new projects. We added additional members to our team, so all our main services are covered along with a Marketing Director. With all the pieces now in place, we can go to a whole new level.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Taking a part-time gig to a full-time career. Literally building a business from nothing into a great company that provides exceptional services and continues to grow.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Learning from your mistakes. You have to stay positive and be OK with failures. Learn from them and never make the same mistake twice, be creative and make entirely new ones!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find something you can be passionate about.
  2. Work with a coach as soon as possible.
  3. Network, Network, and when you are tired of that, Network some more.
