Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Joshua Archer, Owner of Orlando City Kombucha LLC., based in Central Florida, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Orlando City Kombucha specializes in brewing locally sourced, organic, non-alcoholic kombucha. Our customers include a diverse set of people looking for low sugar, healthy alternative to soda, coffee, and a variety of other beverages.
Tell us about yourself
I discovered my love for brewing kombucha in 2014 when I was house-sitting for some friends. One of my tasks, while they were gone was to care for their kombucha brew, which included brewing, bottling, and flavoring.
Initially, I didn't really like kombucha until I discovered that all kombucha is not created equal. The varieties of cultures and flavors really make all the difference. Then I experienced some of the health benefits associated with regular kombucha consumption. I was hooked. I have been brewing tasty and healthy varieties of kombucha ever since.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Honestly, the biggest accomplishment for me is hearing the experiences of our customers and how our product has helped them or improved their lives in one way or another.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Keeping up with all the back-end work. It's hard enough to make a great, consistent product with ever-increasing volume, but the accounting, inventory, sourcing of ingredients, and keeping up with emails are definitely the hardest.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Build and maintain meaningful and valuable business relationships.
- Hire a dependable and trustworthy accountant.
- Make and keep a schedule.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Starting and owning this small business has been one of the most difficult things I have done, but it has also been one of the most rewarding.
Totally worth it!
