Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tony Weaver, Founder of Operation Melt LLC, located in Columbus, OH, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I almost allowed one of my biggest life goals to die without ever being attempted. I never want another goal to die of loneliness!
Operation Melt provides engaging, practical content and hands-on coaching to inspire, motivate and equip project managers and other left-brained high-achievers to pursue and accomplish their biggest goals. Will you help build a world where no goal ever dies of loneliness?
Tell us about yourself
"Operation Melt" started as a nickname. I had a goal to break free from a lifetime of obesity and lose over 100 pounds in under a year. I had decided to do things my way (no diets, no surgery, no giving things up) and used what I knew: project management and data. People kept telling me, "You are just melting away! How are you doing this?!" And that's when "Operation Melt" was born as a blog to tell my story as I pursued my goal. Not only did I achieve my goal, I wildly exceeded it! I transformed from 325 pounds to completing my first half marathon in 16 months and lost 130 total pounds. But my story isn't just about what I lost; it's about what I gained. I found my confidence again and am changing the world one goal at a time!
When I achieved my goal, Operation Melt evolved into something bigger.... I accepted my obesity for forty years. I almost didn't even try to correct it. I had no confidence in myself and believed I would never be successful. My goal almost died, not of failure but of loneliness. Now I have a vision of a different world... Operation Melt is working to build a world where no goal ever dies of loneliness.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
"I can't believe I did it!" My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is when a reader, follower, or client says those words to me after achieving a goal they never thought possible.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Cutting through all the noise and getting past the social media algorithms to tell people I exist. So many people need help giving that goal inside them a little attention, and I know I can help. But that starts with knowing I am here to help.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do it now, not when you are ready! Find what you are passionate about, set a goal, and start moving right now. You will learn more by doing.
- Don't be afraid to make a few mistakes; there is nothing that can't be fixed.
- Be yourself, be vulnerable, be authentic and tell your story. As the saying goes: people don't buy your product; they buy your story. So, tell them why your story matters.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
You don't create the life of your dreams by accident. There is a formula for success.
- Set SMART Goals.
- Build a plan that works for you.
- Measure progress every day.
- Expect and plan ahead for problems.
- Don't go it alone.
- Enjoy the journey.
You can do it; just try!
