Enjoy Your Dang Good Cold Brew - Ope! Cold Brew
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nick Reed, Co-Founder of Ope! Cold Brew, located in Columbus, OH, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Hi, we are Ope! Cold Brew. We're here to make some Dang Good Cold Brew Coffee and to be a part of our local community. Our customers are people looking for a quality cold brew they can have in a bottle. Keep in their fridge. Share with their friends. The majority of packaged cold brew available in stores honestly doesn't taste all that good. We are here to change that. We have no preservatives or additives and are dedicated to using the highest quality beans and materials. Pop a 4-pack in your fridge and grab a bottle and go!
Tell us about yourself
For the better part of 15 years, I've been passionate about coffee, spurred on by the third wave/specialty coffee revolution. I worked a little in coffee here and there over the years but primarily worked in the music industry and then operated a bottling company for many years with some old friends of mine. When the chance for a new opportunity arose, we decided to pair our newfound manufacturing expertise with our passion for coffee. And thus, Ope! Cold Brew was born. Starting and running a small business is hard, but we dedicated ourselves to this project and focused on becoming an integral part of our community. It would be the ultimate dream to continue working in our passion for as long as possible.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
We're still a very young company, and honestly, our biggest accomplishment would be launching the company in the first place. Many years and trials led to that moment, and overcoming all of those obstacles was a huge victory.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things is failing. In starting a business, the only guarantee is that you will fail in one way or another. The hardest part is not letting that knock you all the way down.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Work with people you value, trust, and respect.
- Become comfortable with failure. It's the only way you'll learn and better yourself and your business.
- Try and have fun with it. Running a business is difficult and stressful. If you can do all you can to keep it light-hearted, those hardships will be all that much easier to handle.
