Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in skincare but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Barbara Ongaro, co-founder of Ongaro Beauty Pro-Care, located in Plano, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We're an organic skin, body, and hair care company that provides powerful, clean beauty products that work. Our customers are anyone looking for personal care products that produce visible results but don't contain any harmful ingredients. We offer a "Love It Guarantee," so there is no risk in trying our products. If you don't love it for any reason, just let us know, and we'll provide a full refund.

Tell us about yourself

We started our business after my daughter was diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer at a very young age. When we searched for a possible cause, we discovered that many of the personal care products we were using contained toxic ingredients that can be harmful when absorbed into the skin. Some have been linked to cancer. After researching the limited number of "clean beauty products" on the market and determining that many were priced too high and ultimately didn't work, we decided to create our own products. After much research and testing we formulated a line of skin, body, and hair care products that produce visible results that you can see and feel but are free from any harmful ingredients.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Launching a brand with my daughter has literally changed people's lives. It provides a healthy alternative to personal care products for consumers that actually work.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Managing and prioritizing all of the challenges and opportunities presented every day to grow your brand continually.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't try to do it all yourself. Hire experts to assist you.
  2. Start with just a few products so you can fully optimize them before you expand your offerings.
  3. Refresh and renew always. If you're not constantly improving, you will lose in the long term.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Have fun. Running a business can be overwhelming, but you need to make sure you are enjoying what you do. Hire someone else to do the things you don't love.
