Building Healing Nutrition Plans - One Fork At A Time

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amy McCrea, Founder of One Fork At A Time, located in Lewis Center, OH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a registered dietitian who harnesses the power of food and healthy habits to heal the body. I specialize in customers suffering from gastrointestinal disorders and/or autoimmune conditions. The use of nutrigenomics reveals inefficiencies in the body's biochemical pathways, allowing a deeper dive into the root cause of problems and offering customizable solutions for healing.

Tell us about yourself

The health journey of myself and my family led me down the path of pursuing nutrition to heal, at which point I realized this was the field for me! I initially began with an allergy-friendly bakery in 2011, Soodles Bake Shop. After six years of talking with customers, I knew I needed to offer more. Pursuing my degree to become a registered dietitian took the support of my entire family. I'm motivated by the life-changing effect I can have on everything I reach!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The biggest accomplishment is feedback from patients indicating they are seeing progress and feeling better. Healing is a journey, and I am thankful for all who trust me to guide them along the way.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

In being a small business owner and solo practitioner, solitude can be the most challenging part of the business. To remedy this, I'm continually networking with other dietitians and practitioners, sharing ideas and holding each other accountable.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

There are endless tips to give anyone looking to start a business. I would say the top three are:

  1. Have a good support system from multiple angles - personal and business.
  2. Become an LLC or corporation, protecting personal assets.
  3. Before you go into business, list and rank your priorities in life. Then, never lose sight of them!
