Elegant & Memorable - One Blushing Bride

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wedding accessories but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Alisha Jemelian, Owner and Designer of One Blushing Bride, located in Irvine, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the owner and designer at One Blushing Bride, where I handcraft artisan wedding veils and bridal accessories for an elegant & memorable walk down the aisle. Wedding planning is stressful. My brides want the wedding look of their dreams while not looking like every other bride. So they come to me for a one-of-a-kind design that they can pass on for generations to come.

Tell us about yourself

Ever since I was a child, I would walk up and down the aisles of the craft store in awe. I would touch all of the yards and yards of fabric in vibrant shades and patterns, and I would feel the incredible urge to just do or create something with all of them. I started my shop because sewing was therapeutic to me, but it has become my way to help women feel valued. I believe that every woman deserves to feel special and beautiful, especially on her wedding day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is how I have had the joy of collaborating with 6,000 brides from different stages and journeys of life from all over the globe. If I can make one person feel valued and special, then my mission is fulfilled.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

You never feel like you are doing enough for your business! It is very challenging to know when to stop, when to grow, when to say yes, and when to say no. You will never feel like you have it completely figured out. You will constantly be learning! If you cannot learn to live with uncertainty, then entrepreneurship isn’t for you.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start with a small action. Instead of thinking you need to quit your full-time job and go “all in,” you can begin with small steps in your spare time. This shows you whether your business idea will gain traction, and it takes some of the pressure off.
  2. Don’t get caught up in your head. Learn to take imperfect action because this gets results. I am a recovering perfectionist, so I understand wanting everything you do to shine. But you will get nothing accomplished if you have an unattainable standard. You are going to make mistakes, and this is okay.
  3. Be completely customer-focused. Obsess about them, what would speak to them, and what would surprise and delight them. This will grow your business more than anything else.
