Achieve Your Goals & Targets - On The Mark Coaching
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mark Zimmermann, Founder and CEO of On The Mark Coaching, located in Sydney, NSW, Australia.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
On The Mark Coaching is a coaching business offering coaching, training & mentoring services to clients in Australia, Africa, and throughout the world. Our customers are everyday people looking to improve their lives in the corporate, sporting, and personal space.
Tell us about yourself
As the founder of On The Mark Coaching in Australia & Africa, I was drawn to the industry as I initially realized that the corporate world (where I spent 30 years of my life making a name for myself) was fundamentally wounded. I could see leaders not leading well, teams operating in toxic environments, and individuals who were disillusioned, and all of these factors were impacting performance and outcomes.
Instead of complaining about the problems I could see around me, I decided to study coaching for 6 years and decided to be a part of the solution by focusing my attention and time on helping individuals and teams to operate differently and in a way that they unlocked their full potential and started to enjoy what they do together and how they do it. What motivates me every day is seeing the impact that positive coaching has on teams and individuals.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
As a business owner, our biggest accomplishment thus far is the incredible team we have assembled and the bespoke coaching programs that we have created, which have become our own IP and, in a way, our trademark. People know On The Mark Coaching for its programs, such as the MPT Method (Mindset/Performance/Team) and our ability to deliver great results and outcomes for our clients.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Many people assume that the more a business grows, the easier it is to generate profits, when in fact, the opposite often occurs. In many instances, growth requires growth funding, and that always places pressure on cash flow. Cash flow is one of the hardest things for any business owner to manage - especially when the business has an international footprint.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Give your business plan to the most pessimistic person you know and ask them to pick holes in your plan. It's best to find them out before you begin.
- Start well. Always begin with the end in mind.
- Expect setbacks and curveballs, and be comfortable with mistakes. The best learnings for improvement come from mistakes we make.
