What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own Oh Shirt and More, and I create the best gift items to help you give the gift of laughter. My customers are adults with a sense of humor who aren't offended by the f-word.

Tell us about yourself

I left my 20-year banking career three years ago and followed my joy of creating to start Oh Shirt and More. My business idea came about after my friends kept asking me to make their custom shirts. What began with shirts turned into adding coffee mugs, tumblers, greeting cards, and much more. The laughter I hear when people see my products for the first time is what keeps me going.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have no business background, so making it three years out on my own and not having to go back and get a J-O-B is my biggest accomplishment and one I'm proud of.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing is having to wear every hat designer, maker, researcher and development, marketing, website developer, SEO expert, and so much more.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find something you enjoy doing.
  2. Make a budget before you start to make sure you continue to pay your bills, even when you're not making anything/much yet.
  3. Initially, some of your friends may or may not support you, but don't focus on them. Surround yourself with the people who will be there for you and encourage you.
