What's your business, and who are your customers?
At Above Average Candle Studio, we bring people together! Our candle-making classes are more than making candles; it's an experience for everyone to enjoy! We take pride in being an inclusive business, and all are welcomed! Because candles are for everyone! Make Candles and Make Magic!
Tell us about yourself
Above Average Candle Studio was born out of the recent worldwide pandemic. Originally we were a Doggy Daycare and Grooming Studio. Fortunately for us, we were forced to pivot. I have always been crafty, and I've made candles since I was a teen. Because I was locked in a lease, I had to come up with something. After attending a paint & sip, I thought I could do something similar but with more substance. It took me two months to create the class, and the rest was history. The people who support the studio and our class participants are my motivation. I love giving them an experience that exceeds their expectations.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Starting! I think that what stops people from becoming business owners is the fact that they don't want to start at the bottom. It's been great to go from nothing to something and allow others to be a part of the journey.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Being patient. We all want to be an AMAZON! However, even Amazon had to start somewhere. There is so much that I want to do, and I want to do it NOW. I've had to develop patience with my business because it grows in stages, just like everything else.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Get it started! Work with what you have available NOW; the rest will come in time.
- Use your resources. We all have a network, and within that network, there are people who can and will assist in helping you accomplish your dreams and goals. Share your vision and watch it grow!
- Don't be afraid of failure, be more afraid of the lesson you WON'T GET if you DON'T TRY! Your inner confidence is the key to your success! You can DO IT!
