Ocean Palmer Associates - Ted Simendinger
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in professional development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ted Simendinger, President and CEO of Ocean Palmer Associates, located in Greenwood Village, CO, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Talent evaluation and development through life skill learnings coupled with all facets of behavioral-based sales excellence.
Tell us about yourself
I walked away from a great corporate career following a mass shooting to help plug a glaring gap I saw in workforces all across America. Companies were good at teaching work things but seemed negligent at developing better people. I knew how to make great salespeople and hypothesized that if I could figure out how to make people just as powerful and merge the two together, all good things would result. So I walked away from corporate life and set out on my own. Three years later, I had created the body of work I needed, taught it, and validated that the life skills approach was the quickest way to greater effectiveness.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My books have been embraced around the world. I have taught thousands of students from 60 or so countries across five continents and have an extended friendship circle I could never have dreamed possible. My greatest joy is watching motivated folks succeed.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Unwavering self-belief. When we do things that matter, chances are we can find a way to make a good living.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Believe in yourself. Block out the noise, make stuff happen, and trust that hard work and perseverance will relentlessly advance you toward your goal. Fill a niche through differentiation. This tip is important, too: Do not be shy about asking for advice...and when you get it, take it.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Success evolves over time. Stay in the moment, maximize time choice decisions, don't behaviorally self-sabotage, and get plenty of sleep. You need it to stay energized. Burnouts fail.
