What's your business, and who are your customers?
I own a microgreens business, The healthiest foods on the planet. My customers are those of restaurants that garnish their dishes with micros, the local public, and the wholesale distributors already supplying microgreens to their clients.
Tell us about yourself
I was a volunteer at a homeless shelter in Philadelphia when a resident of the shelter came in with a filet knife and drove it through me again, again, and again. This was supposed to be a "career-ender." I was on life support in the I.C.U at Temple University and was in a coma for a long time. When I woke, I had no clue where I was, nor did I have a grasp on reality. I was deemed disabled for life, but I felt something inside of me that made me fight, day after day, I struggled to learn to walk again.
During those months, I was on bed rest; I studied microgreens, the microgreens business, the demand, and the desire I had to be in the agriculture business. I fell deeply in love with still being able to help the community (from afar) and support my family. I became determined to get out of that bed, and I did! I made myself walk again, built my strength, and took all that I had learned day after day in that cursed room. I started the LLC before I even had a product for sale and signed up at the local farmers market before I had ever even grown a single tray of greens!
This company is designed to improve the lives of those who want more for themselves as well as we target those who don't! We draw pictures for them, enabling them to get out of their bad eating habits and join the health community. It has been a great success on a small scale. I have moved on to advertising, distribution, manufacturing, and selling microgreens!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment was finding a successful way for people to regrow their hair and fight various forms of cancer from their bodies.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about this business is to expand and grow my company. I'm already servicing five counties, but I'm spreading myself thin.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- You have to chase your dream, don't let anything slow you down, and execute your idea.
- Figure out what's working and what is not and learn, learn, learn from others' mistakes.
- You must follow through on this. Once you have committed, you can't turn your back on it. This is your baby, and you must treat it as such.
