What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a registered dietitian and certified diabetes care and education specialist. I work with people of all ages and help them lead a healthier lifestyle, one small victory at a time.
Tell us about yourself
I think being a dietitian is the best part of the health care team. I get to talk about the best parts of life, food, sleep, joyful activity, and feeling better. What motivates me every day is learning something new. It is either something I have learned on my own or something a patient has taught me. Learning and the pursuit of knowledge never get old.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I have two accomplishments that were achieved in the past year. I had been contemplating taking the CDCES exam to be a certified diabetes educator for many years. It is a difficult exam and requires at least 1000 hours of counseling diabetics in a certain period of time. I decided it was now or never and took the exam and passed. It was a big accomplishment and an achievement of a goal I have had for a long time. I had some financial and business goals that were set when I first started my business, and they were surpassed this year.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about being a business owner is knowing what path to take next. There are so many opportunities, and choosing the one that meets my goals is the toughest one.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find something you enjoy doing.
- Enjoy the learning process.
- Everybody fails at something, learn the lessons and move on.
