What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a full-service accounting firm providing business and personal tax services, accounting, bookkeeping, tax planning, and other services. We specialize in complex data, including e-commerce companies, but we do work with a wide variety of passionate founders and owners.
Tell us about yourself
I dream of numbers, always have. I even dreamed of "Numbers Matter" and rebranded it in 2017. I was a business major in college, have a graduate degree in business MBA, and have always been very passionate about helping businesses succeed.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I founded a successful accounting firm that has had some of the same clients for 20 years. I've also started other businesses that failed from a pure numbers standpoint but were incredible successes in truly understanding the challenges start-ups face. The knowledge one gain from a type of failure is a huge accomplishment.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
We work with business owners who are truly passionate about what they have created. We are truly passionate about helping them succeed. That passion often translates to an unbalanced work and personal life, working seven days a week during tax season, weekends year-round, etc. Besides not having a balance between work and personal life, we struggle with staffing needs and the needs of staff.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Failure to plan is planning to fail - have a business plan and a budget.
- Know when the spending needs to stop.
- Define success - I noted above that as an entrepreneur, I have started businesses that no longer exist - a failure on a purely numerical level - but incredible successes in learning about planning, working with other co-founders, marketing, and knowing when to pull the plug.
On top of these three tips is the necessity to have the drive and passion for building the best business you can while being the best person you can be.
