Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in jewelry but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nick Noyes, Owner of Noyes Designs, located in Charlottesville, VA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I create unique, antique-inspired, one-of-a-kind jewelry. Most of my clients are people I have met at music festivals or those who find me on social media.
Tell us about yourself
I got my start with wire wrapping. I have always had a love for gems and crystals. My early jewelry mostly featured crystals. Now I have transitioned into more uniquely cut gemstones. My family and my sense of adventure constantly keep me inspired to push the boundaries of what I do and create.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My recent pendant that was commissioned by the Maine minerals museum is one of the biggest highlights of my career. Being trusted with such a special tourmaline was truly an honor.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Juggling time between my wife and kids with my jewelry business is always a challenge. Though over the last few years, I have found a wonderful balance that lets me experience the best of both worlds. I love being able to be present for my family and my business at the same time.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
If you are starting out, make sure you are not too hard on yourself. Just because the world of social media doesn’t make your work explode right away, it will be ok. Keep on pushing and stay true to yourself. Don’t be afraid to push your own boundaries. It’s never too late to start believing in yourself.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I truly believe that there is a way to make a good living doing what you love. If you have passion for what you do, try to find a way to share that with the world. You have something unique to offer the world; you owe it to yourself and others to share that. It changed my life in so many ways. I am so grateful to be where I am, and it’s all because I took and chance and put myself out there. You can too.
