Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Liesbet Pryke, Founder of Nourishing Body and Mind, located in Miami, FL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am in the wellness business and use many modalities, including yoga, meditation, hypnosis, bodywork, and sound healing, to create the perfect combination for my clients' needs.
My clients typically seek me out when they are in pain and discomfort, whether physical or emotional and then continue to use my services in their self-care routines so that they can operate from a place of optimal health and wellbeing.
Tell us about yourself
I became interested in more of a holistic approach to health in the mid-'90s when I was living and working in London. I was working in the financial world and became stressed and "uncomfortable" in my work. My health began to suffer, and one of the things I implemented into my self-care routine was taking regular massages with a truly inspirational woman who I still stay in contact with now. She was so interesting and was always learning new modalities. I consider her to have unwittingly pushed me in this new direction!
Now my motivation comes from my clients:
- When I see them take leaps in their general wellness and how they change the way that they navigate their lives, it brings me great satisfaction and joy.
- When people express sincere gratitude for teaching them something new, that also keeps me motivated.
I love what I do, and I love to see people becoming more grounded and participating more fully in their lives.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I consider my greatest accomplishment running my business whilst bringing up my daughter. I feel blessed that I was able to make my schedule work around my daughter's needs. I always took her to school and was there to pick her up at the end of her day. I am truly grateful that I was able to do that and earn enough money to support us both whilst doing something that I truly love.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things I found being a new business owner was having to find the time and energy to do everything myself. Now I am in a place where I can delegate and focus on doing the things that I enjoy the most and that come easily to me.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
I think if you are looking to start your own business, you should stick to something that you know and love. For some people, that is the challenge - knowing what they really want!!
For me, my daily practice is vital and really keeps me grounded. It gives me faith and clarity when I really need it. As I tell my students and clients, you think best and do your best work when you are calm and in flow.
We often make poor choices when we are under stress, which is why it is always important to take time for your own self-care. We may think that we don't have time for it, yet I find time and time again that things just flow better when I have taken time to just sit and breathe/meditate/run/fill in the blank of what nurtures you.
