Fine Grazing and Charcuterie - Nosh & Curd

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Danielle Doebereine, owner of Nosh & Curd, located in Mars, PA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Nosh & Curd is a business inspired by the idea of getting to share delicious and beautiful food among great companies and finding those "perfect bites." Owner Danielle loves creating quality food art that truly brings people together with amazing and sometimes unexpected tastes. It's also great to have clients willing to step out of their comfort zones to try new foods they've not experienced.

Tell us about yourself

My name is Danielle Doebereiner. I opened Nosh & Curd in October of 2021. I was bored one day and picked up a book about different cheeses. I started thinking about how much I really love cheese. I was fascinated with the variety and options available from such simple ingredients. It still blows my mind that there are so many different cheese options. I originally wanted to open a cheese shop, which is still a long-term goal, but I didn't feel the timing was right with my kids being sixteen and six. So, I started smaller, still incorporating the cheeses I love and putting my creative spin into the business. It's so motivating to constantly be thinking of new ideas as ways to make your business stand apart and succeed. I love my repeat customers, who also motivate me to continue improving what I do.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Starting the business. I wouldn't say that I wasn't prepared, but until you own a business that solely relies on you, you don't understand all of the nitty-gritty efforts that go into it. The act of growing and maintaining is also an accomplishment in and of itself.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Turning work off. As a business owner, you're constantly thinking about new ideas, wondering how clients are feeling about your products, wondering if you need to place an order of this or that, working on your social media, researching products, etc. Your mind is constantly in work mode, and it's really hard to turn it off.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Do your research. Be educated about the products you're offering. You want to be the "expert" that clients can trust and rely on. Have a great support system. You'll realize quickly who you can count on once you've started your business. It's also great to have someone you can talk to who understands running a business. Don't try to go too fast. Building a business takes time, especially if you're going to do it well. Things can seem overwhelming, especially in the beginning when there are so many things to accomplish in such a short time. Give yourself a moment each day before getting started, whether it be for a short prayer, meditation, or sitting down to enjoy a cup of coffee. Give yourself that moment each day. You'll build the habit and be so grateful for that moment later.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Enjoy what you do, and the business will transform naturally.
