Baltimore’s Best Flea Market - Northpoint Flea Market

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Brian Miller, owner of Northpoint Flea Market, located in Dundalk, MD, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Since 1984, the Northpoint Flea Market has been providing vendors with opportunities that help them provide for their families as well as to grow and prosper both personally and professionally. We have created a meeting place where both customers and vendors have an opportunity to interact with a wide variety of people, have mutually beneficial exchanges, feel safe and respected, and it is fun and exciting. From fresh Amish meats, cheeses, and baked goods to collectibles, packaged goods, clothing, and specialized services, the Northpoint Flea Market

has a little bit of everything.

Tell us about yourself

The Northpoint Flea Market is a family-owned and operated business. Started by my father and mother, Joe and Darlene Miller, in 1984, and I currently run the company; the family has been a big part of the success of our business. Our goal to provide quality over quantity and a positive community-based experience keep us focused daily. The smiling local faces we see tell us that we continue to get the job done.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Making unpopular decisions are often a necessary evil of being a business owner. Who to hire, what vendors to use, when to end relationships that are no longer working, while not fun to make, take courage, and are difficult. It's difficult to keep everyone happy, but in the end, it's all about the growth of the business, which enhances the lives of those involved.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The first tip I would provide is that you need to be persistent. Whatever your goals, stick to them, and don't be talked into something that doesn't feel right for your business or your vision. Secondly, use your heart! If you listen, your heart will tell you the direction you need to go when your brain is conflicted. And finally, value your customers! Without them, your "business" is just a thought, not a reality.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?
