Capturing Unique Personalities - North London Photography
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in photography but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lynn Hammarstrom-Craggs, Owner of North London Photography, located in London, United Kingdom.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is portrait and headshot photography. I specialize in capturing images that showcase my clients' personalities and unique characteristics. My customers are diverse individuals, including actors, performers, business professionals, and families. I work with each of my clients to create personalized photo sessions that result in beautiful, high-quality images, whether it's a classic portrait, a headshot for an upcoming audition, or a family photo to commemorate a special occasion.
Tell us about yourself
I have always been passionate about photography and capturing people's unique personalities in a photo. My degree is in Fine Art, but taking 'people pictures' is something I've enjoyed from the first time I picked up a camera at age 11. What motivates me each day is the opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients, from actors and performers to families and corporate professionals, and to help them put their best foot forward with a great headshot or portrait. I love the process of working with each individual to capture their true self and the satisfaction of delivering a final product that they love.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I'd say what brings me the most fulfillment in my work is the satisfaction I get from seeing the joy on my client's faces when they see the final product. Whether it's a headshot that helps an actor land a role, a family portrait that becomes a cherished heirloom, or a corporate headshot that helps a business professional make a strong first impression, I am constantly humbled and honored to be able to play a small role in shaping the way people are perceived by the world. This motivates me to continue honing my craft and pushing the boundaries of what's possible in portrait and headshot photography.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the most challenging things about being a business owner, especially in the creative industry, is constantly pushing myself to come up with new and innovative ideas to ensure my clients stand out from the competition. It's a challenge to stay on top of the latest trends and techniques, but it also drives me to constantly improve and deliver the best possible results for my clients. It's a difficult but rewarding task that I am passionate about.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
First, I'd say embrace creativity and always look for new and unique ways to stand out in your field. Whether it's through your photography style, editing techniques, or the way you interact with clients, being different and standing out is key to growing your business. Also, stay up-to-date on the latest technologies and tools in the industry. As a photographer, this might mean investing in new camera equipment, editing software, or experimenting with new lighting techniques. The more you know about the tools you use, the better your final product will be. And finally, continuously work on improving and refining your customer service and client relations to build a strong and dedicated client base.
