What's your business, and who are your customers?

Norris Ventures is a full-stack consulting firm providing actionable strategies and strategic execution of developed strategies for businesses needing change management, growth, expansion, or franchising.

Tell us about yourself

I started my first business at the age of 21 in 1991. Although I haven't always been a business owner, I have never lost the appetite for entrepreneurial endeavors. Having experienced marked success in the healthcare finance space, local entrepreneurs began seeking guidance for their endeavors. This led to speaking engagements and lecturing on business topics from my experience. I noticed a need for turn-key consulting for all types and sizes of businesses. Norris Ventures was born.

I love what we do because not only does our team develop trajectory-changing strategies for businesses, but we also partner with our clients to ensure the strategies accomplish the intended outcomes. Seeing a client's business become profitable, begin growing, expand, and be efficient is evidence enough that, while difficult and challenging, the busted knuckles of entrepreneurial pursuits are well worth it.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have these almost every month when we have completed a scope of work for a client, and they see the results. However, releasing my books was huge for me. My first book "Dirt Road Doctorate" was a labor of love. My second book, "Talk to Me," was a labor of necessity. Both books reveal the deep thoughts of my quiet hours. I am working on my third book, a follow-up to "Dirt Road Doctorate."

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The pressure to perform. In consulting, there is no "halfway." There is only excellence.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Your success will never rise above the success you cultivate in those around you. Don't tell people how to reach the top. Bring them with you.
Authority and leadership are not a license to rule - they are the power to restore.
Challenges are not insults. They are precious opportunities to test the tensile strength of your experience. Embrace them and cherish them.
The climb to becoming an authority in your field will be scary - climb afraid! Those around you are counting on you to reach the top. When you get there, you will be equipped to map the route for others.
