Always Fresh, Always Delicious - Nord Bread

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Bianca Saracini, owner of Nord Bread, located in Doylestown, PA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are Nord Bread, a husband and wife sourdough bakery specializing in 100% sourdough, long-fermented breads, soft pretzels, English muffins, and more!

Tell us about yourself

Danny was in construction for 25 years, and I was a hairdresser for 25 years. We both sustained injuries that prevented us from continuing in our careers. Nord was born from my gluten sensitivity and discovery that I could tolerate fermented products. We love educating our customers about sourdough and the fermentation process. Most of our customers base are people who have been gluten-free for years and also discovered that they can eat our products.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We built our business smack dab in the middle of a pandemic :) But honestly, we love how involved we have become in our community and have been able to, with the help of our community, raise money for causes that are near and dear to our hearts. We have also had the opportunity to mentor other small businesses. We love providing others with advice and watching them succeed.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Trying our very best to be above average employers to our employees. We are small and family-run. We love having fun, but we have to maintain boundaries. Add working 24/7 with your spouse and well…. Anyone who’s married can fill in the blanks!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Network with other small businesses shows lots of support for your fellow business partners.
  2. Be generous with your customers.
  3. Commit to providing the most excellent customer service that you can possibly give. We don’t care if we sell a pretzel to a customer or dozens of loaves. They are all treated with appreciation.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Number 4 would be to utilize social media as much as you possibly can. It’s free!! People love feeling the connection to you. It’s important to be real… but always remember to be professional. Keep in mind that your customer base (audience) is from all walks of life has different political and religious beliefs. It’s important to remain neutral and respectful of all.
