The Organic Makeup Queen - Noleen Sliney
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Noleen Sliney, Video Confidence Mentor and Organic Makeup Artist based in Kärnten, Austria.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm a former treasury analyst turned international organic makeup artist and video confidence mentor. I'm the creator of Charismatic, Impactful & Unforgettable on Camera and founder of Natural Beauty Society. I've been called "The Organic Makeup Queen" by Natural Health Magazine, named a Top Beauty Eco-Influencer, and I'm a judge in the prestigious Natural Health Beauty Awards.
I work virtually with businesswomen worldwide teaching them how to show up powerfully and confidently for success in business and life. I work with my soul-aligned clients in two main areas. I help them master their video confidence and say goodbye to their video visibility blocks. This enables them to show up on video and become a magnet to their 5 Star clients, lucrative opportunities and make a bigger impact and income. I do this via group, self-study, and one-to-one VIP programs.
Additionally, I teach my clients how to use their image as their secret advantage and most powerful strategy for unstoppable business growth. For me, makeup and image are so much more than just looking good wearing makeup. It's part of my self-care routine. It's self-respect. It's personal power. It makes me feel incredible because I'm taking the time to do something incredible for myself, even if it's just a few minutes per day.
It's also energy, which determines not only how you show up. But if you show up at all! It's about the feeling it gives you. Makeup doesn't change you. It enhances you. It's a simple tool to use to give you a competitive edge, go from feeling good to feeling great and show up with your confidence sky-high.
I do this via my virtual lessons. I see myself as more of a makeup educator. I love teaching people how to enhance their natural beauty, helping them simplify their routine, and having a healthy beauty routine using cosmetics that are kind to their skin, health, animals, and the planet.
Tell us about yourself
After college, I worked in the finance industry for over a decade. But I quickly realized I was meant to do something more fulfilling, that makes an impact in the world, that brings value to peoples’ lives. I finally left my soul-draining job and completed my makeup artist training. I’ve always been interested in health and wellness, and I’m passionate about nature and animals. So I become an organic makeup artist. Additionally, confidence and empowerment are at the core of how I want to help people.
Four years ago, I moved fully online. I started doing everything virtually, including all one-to-one and group lessons, workshops, and group programs. This enabled me to help people all over the globe and has proved incredibly beneficial for my clients. When I started my business, I really struggled with visibility blocks, especially on video. I soon realized how detrimental this was to the growth of my business and my success. As well as to the success of my clients. If they can’t find me, how can I help them!
Over the past couple of years, I’ve also helped my clients master their video confidence and how to present themselves on camera. This enables them to speak in their authentic voice so their 5 Star clients can see them, hear them and become magnetized to them. To create videos that wow their audience, convert to sales, and make a greater impact and income.
What motivates me each and every day is to show up for my clients to empower, inspire and help them feel overflowing with confidence. Seeing my clients not just being visible but also showing up powerfully and confidently and making a greater impact and income is truly inspirational.
It’s incredible to receive messages from my clients telling me how much more confident they feel as well as other people noticing it too. They share how this has led to them taking inspired action daily and the results they’re achieving, such as high-end clients booking their VIP packages.
Additionally, as a lover of animals and nature, one of my goals is to revolutionize the beauty industry and inspire you to question things, become aware of what you’re using on your skin every day, change your mindset around what and how you buy. As well as show you how to simplify your beauty routine and encourage you to see it as a vital element of your self-care practice.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Staying true to my values and ethics, even when it doesn’t fit in with the mainstream way of doing things and isn’t popular. It’s all too easy to try to fit in. And I’ve definitely tried to do that in the past. I did all the ‘shoulds’ I was told to do that would ‘grow my business. But, surprise, surprise, it didn’t! Because I wasn’t staying true to myself. And doing what everyone else was doing didn’t make me stand out either.
Truthfully, it’s not always easy to be different and has opposing opinions to the mainstream way of doing things. But ultimately, it will pay off in the long run as you will stand out and you become known for this. People are looking for something different, and the world is in need of something different.
It’s easier to be yourself simply. When you feel confident in yourself and what you do, you show up speaking in your authentic voice and become an authority and a leader. It’s not about shoving opinions down people’s throats. It’s more about educating them and bringing awareness that there’s an alternative way of doing things. That’s such a beautiful way to serve your audience your clients and make a greater impact in their lives as well as the world.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Self-doubt and comparisonitis! Both go hand-in-hand, and one can trigger the other. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of comparing yourself to other business owners. You see people having big success, and you wonder why you’re not where they are, what’s wrong with you!
I’ve also fallen into the trap of another sneaky form of this. Sure, it’s thoroughly irritating and frustrating to see people online getting likes and comments for what seems like nothing (e.g., posts with one word or an emoji, nothing of real value). To see the ‘gurus’ and so-called ‘experts’ get the limelight. And for people to listen to them instead of you, even when the information they’re sharing is questionable (at best!). But ultimately, it’s absolutely none of my business what other people are doing. And it’s none of my business if people like this type of thing or not.
Concerning myself about it is just taking me away from the real work I need to do.
It means I’m not in the right energy that will actually attract the amazing clients I want to work with and the people who need me. I’m careful now to avoid that kind of negative energy. Focus on yourself and what you’re doing. Stay in your own lane. This is how you magnetize your soul-aligned clients.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Look after yourself. It’s all too easy to fall into the trap of neglecting yourself when things get busy. Schedule time into your calendar for you. Treat your personal activities with the same attention and respect as you do your business activities.
- Invest in yourself. Not just in business courses, software, mentors, and the usual business-related things. You are your business. If you have ambitions to grow exponentially, up level, and have limitless success, both this tip and number 1 above are a must. Anything you purchase that’s just for you is an investment in your business. Your business can only operate at a premium level when you’re operating at a premium level. Anything that boosts confidence gives you an edge, feels luxurious, saves you time, frees you up mentally and energetically, and is self-development-related, are all very wise business investments.
- Start before you’re ready. There is no ‘right’ time to do anything. I waited over a decade to start my business. Then I almost fell into the trap of ‘it’s too late/I’m too old, etc., etc. Likewise, even when I started my business, there were times when I didn’t put things out there because it wasn’t ready/wasn’t perfect. Here’s a very valuable, lucrative lesson I’ve learned - there is no ready or perfect! Done is always better than perfect. As soon as you put something out there, you’ve opened yourself up to opportunity and success. Sure, it might not work out exactly as you want. But if it’s out there, you then you have momentum. You can then tweak it to improve it. And you’ll continue to upgrade. As you grow, so will your course/program/business. Don’t keep things to yourself. People are looking right now for the solution to the problem that you offer. Practice makes progress. Done is the new perfect!
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
If you’re talking to everybody, you’re talking to nobody. Your goal is not to get everyone to like you. It’s unattainable, so don’t even bother wasting your time trying to. Your goal is to magnetize your 5-star clients. The ones that are a perfect match for you and are a dream to work with. How do you do that? By having a belief and confidence that’s so ingrained in every fiber of your body that your audience will inevitably fall in love with you.
