Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with John Carroll, Owner of No Problem Mac, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We support the Apple Mac, iPhone, and iPad at homes and businesses in Los Angeles and remotely across the United States. We can help you make smart choices when shopping, get you set up, troubleshoot problems, and teach you how to use any Apple device.
Tell us about yourself
I’m originally from Ireland. I moved here over 30 years ago and worked in the corporate world. I’ve always loved Macs and solving problems. After helping a friend one day, they told me, “You're good at this. You should do it for a living”. That was over 12 years ago, so I guess they were on to something.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I get calls where someone has lost work documents, deleted family photos, or forgotten a key password. They’re close to tears or even having a panic attack. It’s nice to be able to help someone at the moment like that and completely turn their day around.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Definitely, finding new business. I rely a lot on referrals, so building good customer relationships is key.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be honest with clients about what you’re able to deliver. People respect integrity and remember it.
- Ask for help. Even competitors will share a few tips with someone starting out.
- Get online and fill out your Google Business Profile. It’s critical for small businesses.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I’d like to thank Laurie Parres of Words Delivered for being a creative sounding board. She’s a lifesaver.
