Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Linda Ferguson, Senior Partner of NLP Canada Training, located in Oakville, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We teach people to change their thinking and communication through NLP (neurolinguistic programming) so they feel more confident, make better choices, and get better results.
Tell us about yourself
I've been teaching communication since 1983 and discovered NLP in 2003. What I love most about this work is seeing people discover that they are stronger, wiser, and more aware than they thought they were. It's the best set of techniques for changing how you think and feel so that you can communicate more effectively. It makes a difference in my life every day, and I know it makes a difference for my clients.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My favourite feedback is that people use what I teach every day. It's important to me that my courses are both interesting and effective. Developing a product that is used every day is my biggest accomplishment.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest part of owning your own business is maintaining the motivation to keep trying new ways to promote your products and keep your business growing.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Owning your own business will be harder than you expect. Build a support team of people who understand what you are facing (friends and family often will not).
- Give yourself space for change to happen (build a financial cushion)
- Remember to enjoy what you are building.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
There are many good reasons to build a business. Know why you're doing what you're doing and honour that when markets are difficult.
