Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nishat Zaman, Founder of Nishat Works LLC., located in Tampa, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a licensed Health Insurance agent, currently licensed in 28 states. My ideal customers are overall healthy, empowering small business owners and families.

Tell us about yourself

I recently moved to the USA earlier this year in January 2022. It was a "fresh off the boat" moment for me when I got here, even though I was born in New York. I lived most of my life half a world away, in a small country named Bangladesh. Coming to the USA, I saw all the amazing opportunities that were available to me, and I chose to help families and people with their health coverage. Coming from a country that doesn't really have insurance, the whole idea of it makes a lot of logical and financial sense.

I also really enjoy talking to people, so building my own business based on what I enjoy doing is more than a pleasure to me. That alone motivates me to work harder each day, knowing that I have built my own business based on what I purely enjoy doing rather than building a business based on market demand.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Given that I just moved to the USA in less than a year, I have accomplished so much within such a short time frame. My business has allowed me to provide a home for my parents, buy my first car, and also be able to give back to my parents all within eight months. This would not have been possible with a normal job.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Mindset. Everything is about your mindset. Being a business owner, you will know there will be bad days, bad weeks, and even bad months. But all of that is because of your mindset. The moment you realize you are in an unconscious and incompetent state, it is your decision to make that change.

There were many weeks when my numbers were below average, and I would look for any excuse to blame it on. But later on, I realized I was the excuse. I am holding myself back with limiting beliefs and a bad mindset. The moment I took the decision, I would no longer take no for an answer; everything changed for me.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Never doubt your product. If you don't have passion for your product and your efforts, nobody else will. The energy you give off is what will make your business grow.
  2. Mindset. It's easier said than done, but the moment you turn the on the switch in your brain, you can take whatever the world has to throw your way. Always believe in yourself.
  3. Don't let your business engulf your personal life. It's hard to have a work-life balance when you are a business. Regardless, it is crucial to give yourself some time to breathe and take a few steps back so you can come back stronger.
