What's your business, and who are your customers?

Nims Media is a boutique creative service agency serving small to medium-sized businesses and non-profit organizations.

Tell us about yourself

I got my first computer for Christmas 1982 when I was 10, a Timex/Sinclair 1000. This was the dawn of personal computing, and little did I know how it would shape the future of my life's work. During and after college, I played in bands, made art, films, and learned web design. When I got married and started a family, I became the first webmaster at a publishing company, where I created an eCommerce website that generated millions in sales. The web/design side hustle continued to grow during this time, and in 2005 I left my full-time gig to start Nims Media. Since then, I have worked with hundreds of clients to tell their brand stories through web, print, and video. My work has been primarily referred-based, and the relationships I have developed over the last 18 years have been very gratifying.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been earning the trust of hundreds of clients and reliably serving their needs over the last 18 years.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about running your own business is that you are ultimately responsible for every dollar earned. No one is going to do it for you.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Have an awesome business plan and stick to it until you need to adjust the plan.
Be good to your clients/customers, and they will be good to you.
Constancy is key... don't stop.
