What's your business, and who are your customers?
Focus Marketing & PR is a full-service digital marketing & public relations agency. We work primarily with small to medium-sized companies to help them navigate the digital marketing world and successfully promote their business.
Tell us about yourself
I started FMPR after I was laid off from a corporate marketing & PR job in 2008. I was ready to go out on my own, and this was the little push that I needed to pursue my dream of owning my own company. I love what I do, and I love that the work my team does on a daily basis helps support others who are pursuing their dreams of owning a small business as well. We also work with several schools and non-profits, which is always rewarding work, and I love supporting the community where I live and raise my kids.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Growing from a team of just one (me!) to support a team of 9, as well as having the ability to have my husband come on board in 2019 and allow us to become a true family business, has been an amazing accomplishment for me. We also provide flexibility for everyone that is on our team, and I'm proud that we can provide a great work/life balance for my family and other families as well.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I often say that owning a business is never, ever dull. Sometimes this is awesome, and other times the surprises can be exhausting. However, I enjoy the fact that every day is different, and I can't imagine it any other way.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Follow your passion and intuition, and trust that God and the universe will get your back when you most need it.
- Hire and keep great people by creating a great culture within your company. You won't ever regret having a great team around you.
- Always remember where you came from, and be open to giving back in the form of mentoring and connecting with those looking to get into your field.
