Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Niki Caldwell, Founder of Niki in Reikiland LLC., located in Menomonee Falls, WI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Niki in Reikiland specializes in natural healing modalities and stress relief for the body, spirit, and soul. Since the business motto is "to make energy healing relatable and accessible to all," we serve people of all ages, races, gender identities, spiritual beliefs, and more. All are welcome.

Tell us about yourself

I have been called to various forms of healing since childhood. After dealing with some mental health struggles of my own, I knew I wanted to cater more to those who were dealing with similar issues, like depression, anxiety, ADD, and PTSD, for example.

I spent some time working as a naturopath with supplements and diet. Although these were great tools, they weren't helping with my core issues. I needed to regroup and focus on the mental and emotional side of things for myself and my clients. I found Reiki and energy healing and knew it was the perfect adjunct to my practice.

Seeing how profound of an impact taking care of our emotional selves has been on those around me and in my own life is what keeps me motivated. To take care of our physical body, we must take care of the mind first.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is building a community as a healer. Not only building relationships and collaborating with fellow healers but each and every one of my guests. Every single person who walks through my door has something special to offer, and often times I learn from my guests as well. I have built many relationships but, more importantly, friendships through this line of work.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest part was/sometimes still is, without a doubt- Comparing myself to others!!! It's so easy to see others in the same or similar fields and not compare their different kinds of success to yours. I never really felt like the stereotypical "hippie-dippie type" healer. The type you see depicted on TV, carrying crystals, smelling like patchouli, and sounding strung out. I've always been a punk rock girl at heart. I care about others to the point my heart aches, but I still have an edge and cuss like a sailor.

I have found people will appreciate you MORE if you just be yourself! Don't try to fit in a mold, don't let the imposter syndrome get you down, be you- do you. It will all fall into place.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Take it ONE step at a time. It can be overwhelming, especially if doing it on your own. Step by step, day by day.
  2. Make sure to take time for yourself as well; self-care is most important. There are times to hustle, and there are times to rest. You won't be good to yourself or your business if you're running yourself into the ground. Take time to enjoy the victories. Busting ass 24/7 can lead to exhaustion and loss of passion.
  3. As stated earlier- BE YOURSELF. Don't try to fit into a mold of what you think you should be doing.
