Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in beauty and cosmetics but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nicole Nemiroff, Founder of Nicoles Beauty Lounge, located in Atlanta, GA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My clients are women who become obsessed with their looks. They want to impress themselves. They want to love and admire themselves. Beauty also comes within. My clients enjoy coming into the shop to vent and express how they feel. There's a lot going on in the world. Everyone has their own personal battles as well. So it is rejuvenating to talk to other women that can relate to your inner thoughts and experiences.
Tell us about yourself
When I was a Sophomore in High School, I started doing eyebrows and makeup for girls going off to Prom. I always thought about creating beauty for myself but for others around me as well. I knew I had a gift and wanted to share it with the world. I find motivation in knowing that people depend on me. In a way, I feel like a superhero. I use my powers every day. The shop is where I find peace and purpose. I'm not sure what else I would be doing in life, so I don't see it as work. Instead, I see it as my happy place.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is conquering my fears. I left my hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and I moved to Atlanta, Georgia. I had a plan and a vision. I physically wrote down my goals, and I stayed the course. I didn't give up when things became difficult. I was able to block out the negative thoughts and voices in my head. About 70% of Americans live in the same town they grew up in. So my testimony is for the readers checking out this article; it is for my supporters and my customers. That testimony is simply not being afraid. It is overcoming your biggest fears and living to tell someone about them.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest part of being a business owner is not giving yourself grace. You struggle with pushing yourself so much that, at times, you may not give yourself credit. It is finding balance within yourself. At the end of the day, it is a mental game, and you have to be willing to be nice to yourself. Finding the time or the space to reflect and celebrate yourself is the hardest part for me.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Realize that there will be more obstacles than you think, and be willing to work 50% harder than you ever imagined. Don't just execute or jump in..spend time researching the pros and cons. Check and re-check because no one is going to be more concerned about your business than you. Also, find a mentor.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I just want women out there to experience life. Sit down with your thoughts. Be alone sometimes and just think. Get out there and see the world. Chase your dreams. Attain those goals. Don't be so hard on yourself, help others when you can, and don't ever get tired of being a good person.
