What's your business, and who are your customers?
Tracheostomy education is an all-inclusive resource for tracheostomy education for clinicians, including physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, speech-language pathologists, and respiratory therapists. We also have a section for patients and families to learn more about tracheostomy-related information.
Tell us about yourself
My background is in speech-language pathology. I began working with individuals with tracheostomy in early 2013. I observed adverse events due to a lack of education in caring for patients with tracheostomy. I started the website to educate clinicians to improve the safety, care, and lives of those with a tracheostomy.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I would say the positive feedback and responses from people who have been on the site and who have indicated that it has helped them to manage their patients safely.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing is that people come from many backgrounds to learn about tracheostomy care and have varying levels of experience. Trying to cater to all groups can sometimes be challenging but also rewarding.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
My tips would be to outsource things that you do not find joyful and are also taking a lot of your time. Be patient with yourself and with your business growth. Only start a business if you know it well and love doing it.
