Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nicola Demme-Tsegaye, Founder of Development-Coaching, located in Munich, Bavaria, Germany.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm a professional coach and organization consultant passionately supporting others in their growth and development. With Development-Coaching, I work with individuals, teams, organizations, and private businesses who want to unleash their full potential and reach their goals and dreams.
Tell us about yourself
For over ten years, I have been working as a senior team leader and organization development advisor on different projects in the context of international development. After having experienced the inspiring but also challenging ups and downs of management in large organizations, I decided to "step outside the box" and focus on my second passion: accompanying others in their personal and professional development. I deeply believe that societies, groups, and individuals all hold the power to develop themselves into the best version they can be, and I am convinced about the power of coaching (based on solid training and experience) to support this process. That's how the idea of development coaching was born.
Originally from Germany, I have lived, studied, and worked abroad for almost 20 years – in China, Japan, Australia, Indonesia, and Ethiopia. I am passionate about exploring new cultures and countries and feel that when we let ourselves be inspired by differences and new discoveries, we grow as individuals, communities, and societies as a whole.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is having touched the hearts and souls of so many clients and seeing how this is changing their lives and careers. For me, making a difference in this world means accompanying a small business in its growth process, creating and holding space for personal development for people who want to change their lives or work with teams to increase their performance. This is the kind of impact I am proud of.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
For me, becoming a business owner meant unlearning certain parts of being an employee. It was a transition process that touched on my identity. Who would I be when I'm not defined by my job and position anymore? I had to find confidence in my new doing by seeing how I was impacting my clients' lives before I could embrace my new identity as an independent coach.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Take it step by step – the grass won't grow faster when you pull it.
- Remind yourself regularly of your little success stories. It helps to pull through more difficult phases.
- Be boldly convinced about what you offer, and at the same time, be boldly committed to learning, improving, and growing along the way.
