Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Catherine Whitecloud, Founder of NextGen Yoga, located in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm Cat, founder of NextGen Yoga. We are on a mission to help women thrive in motherhood. Our live stream classes and global online membership community provide access to continuous support from preconception health when starting a family into strength and mobility for living well in our golden years! We offer full-service programs that include education, yoga, and conversational guidance to champion our members as they move through each stage of their unique journey.
Tell us about yourself
I began teaching prenatal yoga in July of 2020 when I was six months pregnant and have continued to expand my knowledge in perinatal health every day since. As I continued to work with more women, I felt so strongly that it was the community aspect that had the greatest impact. I believe that women should be able to access both education and a support network no matter where they are, so I am bringing the healing powers of yoga right into their living rooms!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I love the feeling of walking hand-in-hand through these transformational moments in a mother's life. I take pride in creating a safe environment where women can feel seen and heard regardless of what they are working through. It is most rewarding when we can look back and remind them of how far they have come. That is when they realize how powerful they really are.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Finding the grit to keep moving forward when you are continuously met with challenges you don't have a clue how to overcome! If I weren't so incredibly passionate about serving this community, the administration, tech, and marketing would have had me throw in the towel a long time ago!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
For me, the most important thing is doing what I love. Find something that cracks your heart wide open, something that is worth all of the early mornings, late nights, and sometimes weekends away from your family because of the difference you are making. If you don't have that passion and drive, you might be on the wrong path.
- Find what fuels you.
- Trust your intuition each step of the way.
- Avoid overcommitting based on anticipated revenue, you'll burn out, and then no one wins, especially not those you are meant to serve.
