Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in training and education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Pamela Clark, Founder and Director of New Heights Educational Group, located in Defiance, OH, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
New Heights Educational Group, Inc. promotes literacy for children and adults by offering a range of educational support services. Such services include assisting families in the selection of schools, organization of educational activities, and acquisition of materials. We promote a healthy learning environment and various enrichment programs for families of preschool and school-age children, including children with special needs. So, we are a one-stop-shop in education and believe in an ala cart and fill-in-the-gaps learning environment.
Tell us about yourself
I am the founder and executive director of New Heights Educational Group, a nonprofit located in Northwest Ohio. With a global reach, New Heights Educational Group has earned over 100 awards and honors since its creation in June 2006. I have 18 years of experience helping families with all their educational needs. I began serving families when I discovered a need for cooperation between families and the educational system, especially in educating children with learning difficulties such as ADHD, bipolar disorder, autism, and neurological disorders. With a passion for bettering education, I work tirelessly to improve the lives of families that come to me for assistance.
I welcome each family personally and help them with whatever they need to further their goals. I also provide teachers and tutors with guidance, training, and resources for different learning styles, and I monitor evaluations. My team of over 90 volunteers researches the latest advancements and uses past successes to help new families. My grandmother was the person who, while I was young, instilled a belief and passion in me for bettering my education and speaking up for what I believe in. God has given me this gift to share with the world, and it's a calling.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Helping someone improve through education and reach their dreams.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The financial limitations of being a 501c3 nonprofit. To help those who really need help on such a minimal budget is maddening and unbelievably difficult.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Talk to others working in the field of interest and consider volunteering with them to gain experience.
- Find others doing what you want to do and explore all options.
- Find your passion; otherwise, it won't be worth it.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
To help us reach our goals, there are many resources within NHEG, including our Learning Annex, New Heights Show on Education, NHEG EDGuide (magazine), 5-tier Reading Program, Tutoring Program, and much more.
