Dynamic and Engaging - New Heights Consulting
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Alan Mallory, Founder of New Heights Consulting, located in Midhurst, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I speak at conferences for a living, delivering keynote presentations and interactive workshops that help organizations and individual contributors reach new heights in leadership and overall performance. My customers are primarily associations and organizations looking for someone to inspire and educate their members, staff, and customers.
Tell us about yourself
I'm an adventurer. I enjoy setting lofty goals in life and working through the challenges to make them a reality. I have a unique philosophy of life, and I enjoy sharing what I've learned with others. I got started in the speaking business through smaller events where I would just tell my story, and that has expanded into a lot of unique programs focusing on leadership, mental health, teamwork, agility, project management, and other areas. I am partially motivated by the exciting places and new experiences I get to have and partially motivated by the feedback I receive from audience members and participants after my events. The combination of these makes it a great vocation.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I've written and published two books which was a major challenge for me and one I'm proud of achieving.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Balancing the many different activities and staying motivated when there isn't always a clear connection between effort and outcomes.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make sure it is something you are passionate about and that you have chosen it rather than feeling pressured to pursue the business from outside influence.
- Brush up on your marketing skills and make sure you have a sustainable plan as to how to continue to bring in work.
- Don't overextend yourself financially or physically, as you'll burn out. Keep it fun.
