Engineering the Future of Fitness - Neuro20 Technologies Corp
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dennis Schmitt, CEO of Neuro20 Technologies Corp, located in Tampa, FL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Neuro20 Technologies manufactures the Neuro20 Pro System, a whole-body electro muscle stimulation smart suit that is utilized to make physical rehabilitation and human performance more efficient. We are the first wearable device that closes the loop of diagnostic sensors and interventions in a wearable textile. Our technology quickens recovery times and patient outcomes for anyone suffering from a muscular-skeletal injury or disease, or for healthy individuals, it optimizes their physical performance. Whether you are a novice or a professional athlete, our system will help you on your health journey.
Tell us about yourself
I am a 50% service-disabled veteran who then suffered more injuries from an IED while working for Other Government Agencies in Iraq and Afghanistan. My quality of life suffered, and I went on a global search for alternative therapy to continued surgery and wanted a non-opioid approach to my pain management. I discovered that Electrical Stimulation was an effective treatment for me, and I worked for several companies globally. I determined shortfalls in the industry, limitations with products, and saw untapped markets, especially in the US. I built a highly accomplished team and used my electrical engineering background to improve the technology and my entrepreneurial background to tackle industry-related issues. My entire goal is to bring this technology to my brothers and sisters, injured veterans, one day at a cost. We need to build a profitable company first in order to do that. We are getting there.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner was securing our first round of Seed financing. As a pre-revenue company, it was a learning experience and a long process to have strangers buy into the vision and the concrete steps made towards becoming a financed company. Our SEED funding of 1.307M came from the Harvard Business School Alumni Angels, which was not just the money we needed but the smart money that ensures growth.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
You have an idea and a drive for your company. You know what drives the business and where you want it to go. Everyone else looks at your company in a different way and usually through their own expertise lens. Some ideas are good, and some aren't, but either will take you off of your trajectory. So choose carefully the advice you follow; otherwise, you will be looking at your business, and you will not recognize it, sometimes for the worse, but hopefully for the better.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Integrity is key; you must be trustworthy, and no matter what you think people want to hear, always ensure you tell the truth. If you lose the trust of your team, investors, and or clients, the business is over.
