Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in jewelries but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with David Nelson, owner of Nelson Estate Jewelers LLC., located in Mesa, AZ, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is Nelson Estate Jewelers, LLC. Our clients come from all walks of life. We have many retail clients celebrating life's milestones that are in the market for engagement rings, anniversary gifts, and even birthday or graduation gifts. Clients also come to us with inherited treasures or jewelry pieces they no longer wear, and we pay cash or offer trade value toward new pieces. Watch battery customers visit us and only pay $5 per battery. We donate all the proceeds to United Food Bank as our way of giving back to our community. On a whole other level, we work with wholesale clients within the industry, giving us a very well-rounded client base overall and allowing us to meet the needs of many.
Tell us about yourself
With over 20 years of experience in the jewelry industry, the motivation to start my own business can be credited to the influence of a mentor of mine within the industry. This mentor showed me that a successful business is directly related to maintaining customer satisfaction and offering quality products that you're willing to stand behind. Feeling like I have truly made a difference in someone's life, or made a special occasion even more special with the gift of fine jewelry, is incredibly rewarding. Knowing that my goal is to continue to change the jewelry industry for the better is the reason I do what I do every day!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is having most of my clients find me by word of mouth. I feel this is a true reflection of the ethical values and transparency that I have built my business on. We won the Better Business Bureau's Torch Award for Ethics in 2020. We are the first jewelry store in the history of the BBB serving the Pacific Southwest to win this prestigious award.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the biggest challenges I face as a business owner is trying to take on so many aspects of the business by myself. It's important to focus your strengths where they are needed and delegate tasks to others.
