Needlework Enthusiast - Needlepoint Junction

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Michele Kay-Greene, Owner of Needlepoint Junction, located in Hilton Head Island, SC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We have three businesses: one physical store, one online store, and one wholesale line. We sell needleart supplies to the end user on our eCommerce site and in our Brick and Mortar. We sell needlepoint canvases in our wholesale line to retailers. Our end user is someone who enjoys knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, embroidery, needlepoint, weaving, etc.

Tell us about yourself

I bought an already in brick and mortar in 2014. From there, we have greatly expanded, both in size and depth. I tell people my coming to this business was a conspiracy created by my father and a family friend. I almost felt as if I did not have a choice.

Today, even though I am exhausted. I love what I do. The motivation is easy. I am surrounded by color and light, and imagination. It's a beautiful thing.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think my greatest accomplishment is creating relationships because that is where everything flows from.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Letting go. I am a control freak, and I want things a certain way. And the finances. I hate finances.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Go in with an open heart, mind, and spirit. The world is your oyster.
  2. Don't be afraid to change course if the path you are following isn't working.
  3. Be patient, money doesn't grow on trees, and it has to be cultivated.
