Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nora DeBora, Founder of Naturally Nora Inc, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Preconception Health Coach, Holistic Nutritionist, and Fertility Awareness Practitioner. I help women prepare for pregnancy and have a healthy baby after 30 by teaching them how to optimize their overall health and fertility through my signature program, "Master Your Cycle To Get Pregnant." In this program, I show women how to harness the power of their menstrual cycle through targeted nutrition, cycle charting, and self-care practices. I also support their partners in optimizing sperm health to ensure both egg and sperm are at their best quality for natural conception or for alternative reproductive technology.

Tell us about yourself

I've always deeply desired to be a mom but have yet to manifest my life partner to start my family. On my 36th birthday, I woke up in a panic that my "biological clock" was ticking. At that time, I had a nutrition practice focused on gut health, taught yoga, and was a personal trainer, so I was already living and breathing a very healthy lifestyle. At that time, I decided to laser focus on my health in fertility, doing everything I could to optimize my fertility because I knew I would start a family later in my life. I wanted to give myself the best opportunity to get pregnant when the time came for me. Once I started diving into the research and started taking additional certifications, I realized how many couples were struggling with infertility and how many women were not completely informed about how their bodies and menstrual cycles worked in order to optimize their own health and advocate for themselves at the doctors. That was the lightbulb moment that pushed me to shift my practice into the fertility niche, and it's been the best decision I've made!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is witnessing my client's health transformations and success in building their family. When my clients get pregnant and have their baby, this is the most fulfilling and rewarding experience and makes the challenges of being an entrepreneur all worth it.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being an entrepreneur is wrestling with the negative talk in your mind. Is what I'm doing working? You didn't get a client this month; maybe you should just go back to a corporate job, etc. There are a lot of ups and downs, uncertainties, and risks in starting a business. One of the biggest challenges can be mindset, as a growth and learning mindset is what will get you through the tough times - and there are always tough times. My mantra that I also share with my clients is "hold your vision, trust it's coming, and keep going."

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure the business you want to start is a deep passion of yours; it will keep you going when times get tough.
  2. Don't be afraid to try things and fail; these are all just opportunities to learn how to pivot and build the business that will best serve you and your customers.
  3. Remember that it's a long game! Rome wasn't built overnight. Have patience and FUNN during the process.
